subject: Getting Traffic To Small Business Websites [print this page]

Most people that are running a small business now understand that they need to have some kind of a website if they want to succeed. What most don't understand though, is how to drive traffic to that website in order to actually turn it into a source of income for their company. This is why there is a fairly large market for people that are interested in selling online marketing services. They can sell these services to small business owners based on the premise that they have the skills and expertise necessary to drive traffic to a small business's website.

There are a number of techniques that you can use to get traffic flowing to a small business website. The good news is that you don't have to be some kind of internet guru in order to start getting traffic. Really, a solid investment of time in the techniques which have been proven to work should yield results over time. The key to getting traffic is in making sure that you stick with what you're doing, as the results do accumulate and grow over time.

SEO is an important part of getting traffic to any website. In the case of a small business, there are two key areas that you're going to want to focus on when implementing an SEO campaign. The first thing that you will do is target keywords which are niche and industry related. This is what we think of as traditional SEO. However, for a small business, local SEO can be another source of traffic that is worth targeting. These are web users who are looking for a specific type of business in their area, and these are the types of visitors that often end up being the most profitable for a small business website.

There are, of course, lots of other ways to get traffic going to small business websites besides SEO. One of the best ways to do this, especially when dealing with business owners who are not especially internet savvy, is to focus on social media and social networking as a means of drawing traffic to a site. Social networking in particular is something that even the most novice internet user is becoming familiar with, as Facebook and Twitter are among the most popular sites online. Setting up a social campaign for a small business is a great source of traffic, and something that most people should have no problem implementing.

Social media is another source of traffic that can bring lots of hits to websites. Content is still king online, and often the best way to really raise the profile of a given website is to put out a great piece of content, or to consistently release solid content. You've got options when it comes to your content creation strategies, but whether you choose releasing articles or YouTube videos, you need to make sure that you're producing content that is going to get people interested or excited about the business that you're promoting.
