subject: New ‘Product Discovery' Website Takes Window Shopping Online [print this page] NEWARK, NJHere's a conundrum for the internet age: what to do when the need for retail therapy strikes, but your shopping list is blank? The answer has come, and it is sleeker than Troy Polamalu's hair. It is more ferocious than Hurricane Earl. It is more glamorous than Dancing with the Stars and fierier than The Blaze. It is DuckDuckChoose.com.
The internet's first "product discovery game" aims to bring the experience of window shopping online, presenting shoppers that have nothing in particular in mind with a changing array of products collected from hundreds of internet stores. Why use an online product discovery game?
As Nick Ruffilo, creator of College Boredom.com, explains, almost every other online store is designed for the customer who already has a specific product in mind. "In real life, window shopping does a great job of introducing new products to users based off of little preference knowledge," he says. "Online stores fail to grasp that experience until now!"
A visit to Duck Duck Choose begins with the selection of a broad category, from Clothing / Shoes to Electronics. Different products display one by one, and like the eponymous children's game, it presents the choice to Duck' an item of little interest or to Choose' to either buy the product or add it to a Wish List. Browsing filters such as Less Expensive' will alter the product selection so only items with lower price tags appear, while others such as No More V-Necks' in Clothing will fine-tune the type of items that display on the virtual rack.
"We're excited to give consumers new ways to connect with unfamiliar and interesting brands," says Matt Ford, lead designer of DuckDuckChoose.com.
