Halloween is often associated with fun and games and children will dress up and visit the neighbors to gather candy. The history behind Halloween is often the reason behind many of the Halloween costumes that are chosen.

Halloween is celebrated on the 31st October and is the night before All Saints Day people have been celebrating it for over 3000 years. Many believe that the night was celebrated to recognize that the lighter days were ended and that the darker days were beginning. The need to ward off evil spirits was the reason behind the Halloween costumes and the masks, as they helped to disguise the person from harm. This holiday became so popular in America when the Irish introduced them to the festival and the activities. As with many holidays, the Americans adapted it to suit with their culture and expectations and made it the huge holiday it is today. Although over the years people have tried to make Halloween more about the neighborhood and families the traditional Halloween costumes are still as popular as ever.

Halloween is one of the largest grossing holidays bringing in over seven billion dollars annually; more people will spend money on Halloween rather than any other holiday. Many of the symbols associated with Halloween have come from the Celtic times where turnips and pumpkins were carved to make lanterns. The images of ghouls, ghosts and vampires have become very popular as a Halloween costume for many. The more scary the image and decorations the better and many people take a great deal of time decorating their homes.

Everything dark and evil is brought out for this holiday and the popular colors of black and orange are used the most at this time. Orange is often used as it represents autumn and fires which are common to have at this time of year. The traditional games and activities that are associated with Halloween such as trick and treating have been popular for many years. Young children are known to dress in their Halloween costumes and visit houses for candy. Traditional foods such as candy apples are given out due to them being in vast quantity at this time of year alongside pumpkins and corn.

Halloween is a great excuse to find a fantastic Halloween costume and get together with friends and family and have a party. Whatever you choose to dress up as, you will have a fantastic time and there are many costume stores for you to get your Halloween costume from. You can look online for ideas and inspiration and you can choose to be as scary or as calm as you want. There are no limits as to what you dress up as you can turn something nice and sweet into a scary and evil version the possibilities are endless.
