subject: The Lg 47sl9000 - An Initial Review [print this page] The new LG 47SL9000 has got style and technology in one great package. It is a design masterpiece from Korean electronics manufacturer LG. Even when turned off, this LCD TV will have you gazing in awe on its borderless front fascia. Power this thing up and you will definitely wonder if what you see is real or just an illusion.
It has LED's lighting the edge of its screen, making the picture astoundingly bright while still maintaining the slim profile. Though it isn't as thin as a blade, it surely is far from thick, measuring just 4 cm on the sides at most. Hang it on a wall and it literally looks like a picture frame.
More contrast generally means better pictures. With this TV's whopping 3,000,000:1 contrast ratio, the pictures that you would see here are simply mind-blowing. And if you haven't already guessed it, the LED lighting also adds up to enliven the picture. It is also fully HD Capable, with a native resolution of 1920 x 1080p. This results in stunning detail and really crystal clear pictures in its expansive 47 inch screen.
While most other LCD TV's have a hard time displaying their best picture when viewed from different angles, LG stands out. It can be viewed at 178/178 degree angles, meaning you could move around and not notice variations in the picture quality on the display. With LCD TV's suffering from narrow viewing angles, the LG breaks the rules.
The LG 47SL9000 LCD TV is equipped with LG's Trumotion 100Hz motion control. Though the refresh rate is not as fast as 200Hz motion control technologies, it is still very effective in minimizing motion blur. Another feature that minimizes blurring is its 2 ms response time. Motion blur is not noticeable when watching fast moving objects on the screen.
Sporting four HDMI input ports, this TV takes in a variety of digital input devices. High definition media players like Blu-ray Disc players, the latest game consoles, and even PCs can all connect seamlessly to the television. For backward compatibility, it has VGA ports and Component Video input jacks. With a digital audio output, you could route it directly to your home theater system for superior surround sound. And like most of its counterparts, it offers a USB Port, an Ethernet connection for media streaming, and an Integrated Bluetooth. With your mobile phone, you could listen to music using your TV using a Bluetooth connection.
All good things come with compromises though, and LG have certainly had some missteps with this TV. For one thing, the screen is a bit glossy, which can complicate viewing in brightly lit rooms. Also, as a result of its really skinny physique, the sound quality from its built-in speaker is a little on the tinny side. But for those who plan to hook this up into their home theater set-up, this is just a minor issue since they won't be using the integrated speakers.
Don't let these put you off though, because the LG 47SL9000 uses much lower energy with its LED lighting. And when on standby, it draws less than 1 watt. With its fresh design and amazing display performance plus low power consumption, it is definitely a good choice for your home theater.
