subject: Is Herbalife A Scam Or A Real Business Opportunity? Part I [print this page] Theres a big question thats been going around the MLM community for quite some time now, and that question is; is Herbalife a scam or a real business opportunity? The reason Ive decided to get involved in this discussion was to see if I could shed some light on the matter and give people who are looking to join this company some hopefully useful information. Firstly, I think we need to understand one thing, and that is that despite all the bad that is said about this company, what it has accomplished in the market place is truly phenomenal by any standards.
Herbalife was founded in 1980 by twenty three year old Mark Hughes. This guy had very little business knowledge, but despite that, he build out of nothing a corporate giant that at the time of his controversial death at the age of just 44, was operating in several countries around the world and was a billion dollar plus company. That is fact, and as I sit here in my back office I have to ask myself the question; what right do I have to criticise a company who in 2009 operated in 72 countries, employed some 4,000 people, had a global turnover of 2.3 billion dollars and was publicly traded on the NASDAQ?
Whats really in question here isnt Herbalife the company, its Herbalife the opportunity, and although the stats look like the American dream, in reality, for many it has been the American nightmare, so whos fault is that? Firstly we need to look at the products and what they offer the consumer. Herbalife produces a range of weight loss nutritional products and personal care products. These come in various forms such as; shakes, tablets and skin care, with the companies Formula1 being their key product. In 1985 the California Attorney General sued Herbalife for making inflated claims regarding the efficacy of its products. The company settled the suit for
850,000 USD without admitting any wrong doing.
So are they any good? Well, the only way to truly answer that is too try them yourself. They have thousands of testimonials from people who state that these products have changed their lives, and Im guessing that if someone lost weight and/or got a health benefit, then for them the answer would be yes, the products are great. But this is the health and weight loss industry, and for every great story youre going to find, then a not so great one could be looming just around the corner.
So what about the cost, are they priced well and offer good value for money? Once again this is a matter of opinion, you either pay the price or you dont. Without doubt there are cheaper products on the market and there are also more expensive ones, it all depends on whether the customer perceives them to be value for money, its that simple. But if you do buy some and are
not happy in any way, then the company will refund your money provided you are within 30 days of the purchase date. Herbalife have been selling products for close on 30 years, what this tells me is that they are safe to use. Whether you want to use them is up to you.
In my next article Ill be looking at the MLM and business opportunity side of Herbalife and seeing whether its a scam or if its at all possible for someone starting out today to achieve their American dream.
Enjoy Your Day
