subject: Death at a Funeral Movie Review - Staring Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence [print this page] An All-Star comedic cast was put together for this remake of a 2007 British comedy. The story revolves around the funeral services for the father of Aaron (Chris Rock) and Ryan (Martin Lawrence). Aaron is envious of his brother for being a successful writer, and is upset with him for not contributing to pay for their father's funeral.
Death at a Funeral Movie Review - An unexpected surprise...
As guests arrive at Aaron's home where the ceremony is to take place, it becomes evident that this isn't going to be your average funeral. Before the proceedings begin, Aaron is confronted by an unknown guest, a little person named Frank, who claims to be his father's lover. He demands $30,000 which he feels he is entitled to from Aaron's father's estate.
On top of these distractions, one of the guests, played by James Marsden, has been given a Valium by his girlfriend to calm his nerves about being around her father. Turns out what she thought was Valium was actually a hallucinogenic drug. The movie proceeds as Aaron and Ryan try to figure out how to deal with their father's lover, and how to keep their very high guest under control.
Death at a Funeral Movie Review - Recommendation
This movie is full of laughs. Between the hilarity of James Marsden talking to lawn ornaments and bushes while hallucinating, the wisecrack exchanges between Uncle Russell (Danny Glover) and Norman (Tracy Morgan who I feel steals the show in the movie), and the cute insensitivity of Aaron's wife Michelle (Regina Hall) as she is pestering him throughout the day about trying to get her pregnant, this film is one of the better comedy films of the year. I'm usually not a fan of remakes, especially when the original is merely three years old, but this film is definitely better than the original. I definitely recommend checking out Death at a Funeral.
Final Insightful Movie Review Rating: 8/10
