subject: More Value For Your Money With Your Accessories [print this page] These days, just about everyone is crunching their budget. But that doesn't mean that we women have to deny ourselves the accessories that we love. It just means that we have to be inventive and a little more careful to get the best value for the least amount of money.
For someone who is accustomed to buying cute clothes and ornaments on a whim, this can be a difficult adjustment to make. With the right attitude, however, it can be a fun one. So let me give you some tips to help you get more value you for your money with all your accessories.
The first thing you will want to do is go through what you already have. Start with your jewelry box. Pick out the valuable pieces--those with diamonds, pearls, or other precious stones--and separate them into another container. Set it aside for now.
I know I have a bad habit of throwing all of my jewelry together, which means they often become tangled or damaged by my negligence. If you have the same problem, then reorganize all of it. If necessary, purchase a new jewelry box that will help you do this more effectively.
Go back to your valuables and assess them carefully. Are they broken, dusty, or missing pieces (like earring backs)? Do what you can to repair them or replace pieces, which may include taking them to a jewelry repair service. Take them to a jeweler to have them cleaned, which should be done at no charge to you.
As you replace them in your organizer, commit to wearing these exceptional pieces only on special occasions. I say this because wearing them obviously increases the likelihood of a mishap, but if you choose costume pieces for everyday use, you can worry less.
When you shop for new accessories, choose stores that have a reputation for selling inexpensive jewelry. I know of four or five such shops in my own local mall that offers a variety of bracelets, earrings, and necklaces--along with purses and shoes--for under ten dollars!
Go through a similar process with your purses and shoes. Many linen purses can be machine washed, which will do wonders. Determine whether or not your shoes can be spruced up with a thorough cleaning and/or a few swipes of polish.
Cleaning and repairing before shopping will increase the life of the accessories you already own. But it doesn't always work. When you buy shoes and purses, there is no need to buy everything top-of-the-line. Instead, choose accessories that will be versatile, such as an interchangeable purse.
For example, a simple black clutch is great for almost every evening out, and a reversible purse for everyday use will give you two purses in one. Just learn to take good care of everything you own and be shrewd when you make new purchases and you will get by just fine.
