The Developing White Beach Of Lanzarote

Playa Blanca is located on the southern region of Lanzarote and his considered the third most popular tourist destination on the island. Which is good, as it is the newest and fastest growing resort on the island. This is an island that has won many awards for its beauty and is considered an ideal place for the whole family. Until recently Playa Blanca was a small fishing village, but the fact that you could catch a ferry to Fuerteventura meant that it was always had a bustling port, so it was always popular and it was only time that it was going to developed into a tourist area.

It has its own school, notary and a busy Rubicon Marina which has a twice weekly market, church, harbour with ferries to Fuerteventura and a growing industrial area. It has recently included a bus station that houses a police station; it is called the 'Estacion de Guaguas'. It is the first municipality on the island that has its own dedicated bus service, as opposed to buses that simply pass through. A golf course is planned for construction and there is discussion about making the harbour larger so that larger cruise liners can be welcomed.

The Marina Rubicon which is located on the eastern end of the resort, it is a sea front development of upmarket restaurants and designer boutiques that are positioned next to the beautiful marina of luxury yachts and boats. This is where you can sample some of the best local and international cuisines that are on offer. So it should be no surprise to find some of the best Lanzarote Villas around this area.

Playa Blanca means white beaches, so it will be no surprise that this town is known for its beach. In the centre of the town there is a small beach. But perhaps the most well known of all the beaches around Playa Blanca is Papagayo. Which consists of a collection of small beaches separated by high cliffs. These form a number of sheltered bays; the area is protected and is a national park that can only be accessed by the bumpy dirt road. But the Papagayo is a bit of a distance away from the main residential and tourist areas. So if you are planning to go there you need to go prepared. Within a short walking distance of the centre are two beaches on each side of town; on the east is the Playa Dorada and the Playa Flamingo to the west. They are both man made beaches and Playa Dorada is probably the best of the two, especially as Playa Flamingo is recovering from damage from a storm in 2005. It is said that most of the best beaches are east of town and with Papagayo and Playa Dorada can back up the claim.

Within a few minutes from Playa Blanca, you can find some of the most acclaimed sites on the island. These are the Timanfaya National Park, La Garia, Janubio salt flats, El Golfo, Los Hervideros or the quaint village of Yaiza. There is also the village of as Breas, where visitors can see the spectacular views of Playa Blanca with Fuerteventura Island in the background.
