subject: Derma Roller Reviews [print this page] Some treatments come and go, and some are just here to stay; the Derma Roller is the latter. Since this is a relatively new treatment, it is not mainstream yet, but i was mentioned by me girlfriend about this, and so i will just share my research main conclusions. Lets find out more about this treatment and the wonders it can do to correct skin imperfections.
Never heard of it, Tell me more
Its a tool used in a specific kind of treatment, that treatments name is Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), the instrument has some resemblances to a small paint roll, the main difference is that this one is covered with micro-needles, these needles serve only one purpose: punching really small holes in the epidermis (the outer layer, far enough from any nerve endings, so no pain).
How does it do it?
The Derma Roller works by stimulating the skin to start producing collagen, hence the treatments name Collagen Induction Therapy. It does this by piercing the skin with the small micro-needles in the roller, they are small enough so you just feel a tickle but deep enough to trigger the nerve endings that tell the skin to produce collagen, now if you multiply this by the number of needles in the derma roller you will eventually create a new layer of collagen all over the skin. The recently formed layer of collagen will eventually blend with the skin covering up and correcting most issues, and forming a healthier, ticker and more elastic fresh layer of skin.
Is this safe?
You have nothing to worry about, as long as you know the needle limits, needles that have a depth of more than 1.5mm should only be used by professionals in clinics. Since we plan to use this at home, all sizes below or even 1.5mm will work and be safe at the same time, still the best starting point would be the 0.5 needles, and then if you feel comfortable with the treatment, you can go for bigger needles that work in a slightly deeper level. You might be wondering why you shouldnt use larger needles at home, and it has a reasonable explanation; needles above 1.5m require a local anesthetic in form of a numbing cream, so that you feel no pain, and it is very dangerous to use these creams at home, with the rick of anaphylactic shock, so dont do it. The advantage of the bigger clinical sized needles is mainly speed, they will get results a bit faster than home needles, and require less treatments to do so. They do have a drawback, the price, they are more expensive, because those needles are for one use only, and they need to use extra numbing cream; so its just a matter of cost effectiveness, and the home usable Derma Roller wins clearly, since the end result will be the same, it just takes a little more time.
Will it help my specific issue?
In general if you have a skin imperfection, derma roller will help, this includes stretch marks, acne scars, ice picks, burns, age wrinkles, cellulite and so on. Still there is more, the Derma Roller has also the function of enhancing the effectiveness of any skin cream, simply because, it creates temporary holes that will act as paths for the cream to reach the inner layers of the skin, improving the rate of absorption, in some cases, to 2000x; you can use this property also to improve results on hair related skin issues, such as receding hair lines and general hair loss. Regarding what cream to use, it is also very simple, if you are using the Derma Roller on the skin, the only cream you will need is a good simple vitamin cream (specially C), if you are targeting the scalp just use minoxidil instead, it will give much better results than using it alone.
Final Toughs
Now that you know the basics on the Derma Roller, just give it a go, and you will be amazed with the results for something this cheap. If you are still a bit afraid, remember to go for the smaller needles as a starting point, also remember to always get a roller that has FDA approval and that has the needles sterilized by gamma, this is important because there are many cheap counterfeits in the market.
I also did a more detailed article about this, where you can find before and after pictures, videos explaining the treatment, and eventually where to buy your own Derma Roller Treatment.
