October 31st Halloween at first was a festival of the Celtic culture while it was called Samhain (interprets to:Summer's End) moreover has origins with the old Scottish tradition All Hallows Eve from the sixteenth century.

Over the years Halloween almost died out in most Irish countries, and the symbols and customs along with it. For example, the main character, craved and hollowed turnip lanterns to stay clear of the evil courage which were believed to bring the darkness and cold conditions following the harvest season.

This is somewhat similar like to the trick or treat habit, however Manx Kids were singing and collecting foods before wintertime so it wasn't associated with the tricks. When Halloween was introduced to America in the nineteenth century by Irish incomers, the turnip motif quickly was replaced by pumpkins since they were more widespread and it was a lot easier to shape. During the last two century Halloween become mostly known as an originally North American tradition. The event received its new images and traditions from US as of the 19th century. Until then Halloween was associated with the Harvest, scarecrow, pumpkin, corn husks, Later the movie industry added the most with its famous characters Dracula, Vampires etc mass production has started in the form of Halloween celebration so the plethora of spooky characters become wider and wider. Above all Dracula's character was the most emphasized based on Bram Stoke novel.. Dracula story is based upon his studies he made in certain European countries which then particularly Transylvania gave the perfect background to the story.. For this reason Romanians claim the title of Land of Vampires. Today you can participate in a Halloween festival on Halloween eve in Romania's Sighisoara in Dracula's Castle. Away in Europe, the popularity of Halloween is rise above with All Saints' Day, All Souls' Day, Zaduszki (Polish tradition). Most are related to the Harvest event when country persons completed harvest and were left for winter without food and income. Particularly Martinisingen is very similar to Trick or Treat except that it was held on November 10 and kids were not dressed up but were sent to sing for rich residents to collect food or money for worse times.
