subject: Going to the Gym? Why You Lose Only Time and Money [print this page] Every six weeks my local gym sends out flyers offering discounted membership fees.
Why? Because it cannot keep members.
Why? Because gyms have a 95% chance of failure.
You pay your membership fees, go once or twice and never go again. You reason that by parting with your money up front, you'll attend. A feeling of smug satisfaction washes over you. The first step is made to regularly attending. But too many factors stop you going.
Handing over your money and not attending means only one thing: a loss of your money.
Going to the gym takes up too much time. On top of your exercising time, you have to add on time for travelling, changing, showering, If you are attending daily, think of how many extra hours per week you are losing that are not on the actual exercises.
Let's pretend it takes 10 minutes to get to the gym, 5 minutes changing, 5 minutes showering and another 10 minutes travelling home. That's half an hour without doing any exercise.
Forget losing time and money to your gym. You can exercise at home without forking out 100s and sacrificing previous time.
An hour's exercise a day is not necessary. 15 minutes daily is more manageable for most people time-wise and psychologically.
Wendy was told by her gym instructor it would take a year before she sees any results. She is exercising 3 hours a week.
Jo followed a totally different exercises workout - one she could do at home without paying membership fees and she did not use expensive equipment. She commented that the improvements were outstanding. Unlike Wendy, she saw improvements in six weeks. And she only exercised for 15 minutes a day.
Who wants to exercise for a year? If you are exercising for that long and not seeing positive change, you will quit. People are naturally impatient. We want everything now. Apply this to exercising. You want realistic results well before your tenth hour. Pounding away at the gym or donning your running gear may help to shift fat and help you toned up, but there's a quicker way. Exercises that are quick to do and quick to show results.
