In most cases, as long as you keep some fresh product on hand, you can create fabulous dinners with whatever is already in the home. It does help however to have your cabinets and fridge stocked with a few specific items.

It is always helpful to keep the basic ingredients of most great slow cooker recipes in mind when you shop for groceries. Buying whole chickens, and larger cuts of meat that are more desirable for roasting is always helpful. This will include roasts, thick pork chops, boneless country style ribs and other options that do well when cooking until tender. You should also through plenty of onions of different varieties, garlic, celery, carrots and red and white potatoes. It is also helpful to have several cans of stewed tomatoes, a box of onion soup and chicken and other types of bullion on hand as well.

Even on a busy morning it is possible to through a few balanced items into the slow cooker to create a fragrant feast whose aroma will greet you at the door. Some of the most enjoyable recipes can be put together in under twenty minutes. The greatest feature of this type of meal however is that clean-up is always minimal.

A favorite recipe calls for seasoned pork chops that have been lightly breaded with flour. These are then dropped into a skillet that has been coated with olive oil. Once browned on each side they are place in the slow cooker with stewed tomatoes, chopped onions and minced garlic as well as red roasting potatoes. As is typical with pork, it is important to put the cooker on a high setting in order to ensure an even and thorough cooking. Once you get home from work, there will be an entire meal that is ready for you and your loved ones.

Many individuals are not aware that a slow cooker has the ability to roast an entire chicken to golden perfection. The chicken should be washed and then gently dried. The skin is then rubbed with unsalted butter or even olive oil. It should then get stuffed with a mixture of garlic, onion and celery. For a complete meal red or white roasting potatoes and baby carrots can be added as well. Use cracked black pepper and seasoned salt, rosemary and thyme to season the entire contents of the pot and then place the cooker on high. The chicken and vegetables will slow roast in natural juices and the butter or oil rub will ensure that the meat takes on a golden brown color.

Steaks or other cuts of red meat can be placed in the pot with onion soup mix and an assortment of vegetables. The slow roaster will ensure that these come out nice and tender, flavorful, and ready to serve even before you have properly hung your coat. You can also brown ground beef and combines this with stewed tomatoes, onions, garlic and other spices to create a delicious and light pasta sauce. Adding frozen ravioli or tortellini to cooker and setting it on low will create a complete and delicious whose hearty fragrance will greet you at the door.

If you soon grow tired of potatoes these can be eliminated from most recipes. Pre-measure rice and water into the rice cooker and set this beside the slow cooker. When you return home, set the rice cooker from off to on, and your meal will be ready to enjoy in twenty minutes or less.
