subject: Time to Get More Productive! [print this page] Everybody has off daysEverybody has off days. We all have days when we feel like we ran around for hours but got nothing done. This usually happens because we have poor time management skills. This is not a state you have to be stuck in permanently. We can each reassess our habits and time management skills. You only need a willing attitude to work hard to fix this behavior. There are a number of time management methods you should keep in mind. What works for one person might not work for you, so you'll have to try a few things before you find the habits that work best. The following tips might help get you started.
Don't try to be perfect. Getting adept at time management does not mean becoming perfect. When you are obsessed with perfection, you end up making more mistakes than you otherwise would. This is just the way things are. If you are going to effectively manage your time and methodically complete your tasks, you can't be concerned with perfection. Nobody's schedule is perfect. Nobody's skills are perfect. So be satisfied with doing the best you can. If you want to get better at time management, you have to learn how to relax and reduce your stress levels. An easy time management tactic that works well is to simplify your larger tasks by separating them into smaller pieces you can manage more easily. Whereas it can be difficult to know where to start with a big job, when it's been broken down, it no longer seems so hard. If you are part of a team, it's also helpful to break down large jobs so you can give each person the task he or she is most qualified to work on. Procrastination is a common problem when it comes to facing large, intimidating projects. This is because the job is so large it confuses or frightens us. By breaking it down into small pieces it becomes manageable and easier to do.
One skill you really need to develop to get better at time management is delegating tasks. People who try to do everything themselves seldom get very much done. Very often, the activities that take the most time are not actually that important and can be done by someone else. This will help you think more clearly and focus on what's truly important. If you spend too much time on trivial tasks, they can be a real distraction. Delegation is something that many people have difficulty with. This is just something you have to make yourself do.
There are all sorts of things that you can do to improve your Time Management skills. Your situation right this second has no bearing on how soon you can get things in order. All you have to do is start making new habits. You won't ever have to worry about losing a day to daydreaming again and it won't take to much time either.
