subject: How to Make a Leaflet for Your Business [print this page]

Leaflets are a great way to advertise nearly any business, and they can be fairly simple to make at home. All you need to is a basic word processing program on your computer, and soon you will be well on your way to leaflet distribution.

First, decide how you want your leaflet to look. You can form a mock-up by drawing on a piece of paper, and folding it how you want the final design to be folded. Or you can check whether your word processing or publishing software offers leaflet templates. A template might be the easiest way to make a leaflet if you have never done it before.

Choose easy-to-read fonts. It's best not to use more than one or two different fonts in a leaflet. Too many different ones can be distracting and make it harder to read. It also looks unprofessional.

Make a big, bold headline at the top. This can either be the name of your business, or the type of service you offer. You can also put your contact information near the top so that it is easy to find.

Next, decide on your graphics. You can choose photos of your business, your products, or a photo of something relevant to your business. You can also use artwork or clipart, but photos are usually best.

Describe what it is you do or sell. You can write this copy yourself or hire a professional to do so. Look at sample fliers from other companies to get an idea of the feel and tone of writing advertising copy. But never use someone else's words.

Finally, proofread your leaflet. It might be best to have several other people look it over as well.

When your leaflet is done, you can print it off and take it to be copied. You can do mass leaflet distribution by hiring a company to do leaflet delivery for you, or you can do some leaflet delivery yourself.
