subject: Are More Expensive Shipping Options Worth It? [print this page]

Buying goods online is a common practice these days, in fact it may have even overtaken shopping on the high street as many people are able to find exactly what they need on the internet as well as being able to buy goods from overseas and have them shipped right away. The cost of shipping parcels is often free from some retailers but sometimes there are retailers who offer alternative shipping options which may come at a premium.

These shipping options tend to be higher priority such as 24 hour deliveries or deliveries that arrive with a day or two at most, these services are often dealt with by a courier company or specialist parcel delivery company as they are able to guarantee efficient deliveries no matter what and are not going to be delayed like the post office can sometimes be blamed for.

These services are often trackable which means you'll be given a tracking code to enter on to the courier's website and can follow your delivery at every point. This has become a welcome feature for most deliveries that involve expensive or valuable deliveries, it is also important for business deliveries as there are companies that are waiting for business critical deliveries of documents and other products that need to be delivered quickly.

So is more expensive shipping options worth their cost? For more expensive and urgent deliveries you may want to go with the more expensive shipping options but there are some people who may see these expensive delivery options as overkill such as items you've bought for someone's birthday a month or more away, you could save a bit of money by choosing a less expensive service or free delivery if the retailer offers it.

It is still worthwhile choosing a service that is performed by a courier though as they operate independently of the postal service that could be delayed, lose your parcel or be held up due to postal workers going on strike. There are plenty of companies to choose from and each courier often has a range of services ranging from the more expensive options that can be delivered next day or cheaper services that could be ideal when sending a lot of parcels frequently such as a home business.
