subject: Portrait Painting Business [print this page] From alligators to parakeets to a champion black angus that's the range of the portraiture of this man, which currently is developing into a thriving and highly specialized art business. As he puts it, if someone has a pet flea and can get a good clear photograph of it, I'll paint it. So far, however, he has restricted himself to birds, dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, and one alligator.
As a growing boy, he found joy in arts and animals. If someone is to support a wife and child then selling fine paintings to make a living is not good enough as all artists are familiar with. In the Bay Area where he moved he tried to pursue a career in commercial art as he continued studying. What he did during World War II was open his display business and engaged in fine art as a hobby.
He made a portrait of a friend's siamese cats and this was when his wife suggested that he develop his hobby into a business as his work delighted even the cats that ended up almost destroying the painting by purring and rubbing against it. The earnings that were generated from his pet portrait painting business were rather impressive.
The cow palace housed his most recent works. From then on he was showered with commissions to come up with portraits of fine show horses, a pet parakeet whose owner raised it from an egg, and also a champion rabbit. What a famous television actor singer and recording artist wanted him to do was to make a portrait of his horse. Making a portrait of a winning black angus also became one of his tasks. It is something better than painting people portraits for him and he says that the subjects do not kick.
