subject: How to Cash a Check [print this page]

How exciting, you just ended your first week at a new job and it's finally pay day! It's your first job and they just handed you a check with the amount you earned for the past past week. You haven't got a clue how to get your money and you need cash now.

This is the scenerio a lot of teenagers might have during their first job. However, cashing your first check shouldn't be scary or a problem at all. It's actually quite easy. Here's how to cash a check.

Finances: Investment Banking Industry

It's pretty easy to cash a check. You can do it in two ways: take it to the bank that issued the check, or take it to your bank.

If you have a bank account, take it to your bank. Sign or endorse the check, and present it to the bank teller. Also present a valid picture ID with your signature. Usually the process is fast, so you don't have to wait long. You'll have your money in no time.

If you don't have a bank account, take it to the bank that issued the check. You can see the name of the bank in the check. You will need to present a valid picture ID as well after you endorse the check. The process is the same; you don't need to wait very long for the teller to give you your money.

College Students: Low Interest Student Credit Cards

Sometimes banks refuse to cash checks for people who do not have accounts with them. If for some reason you cannot cash your check in a bank, you can go to Wal-Mart or any grocery store. Some grocery stores cash checks, but you will have to spend a percentage of the amount first.
