We stayed for two nights at Grandstay during a cyclone football game. Great price for great hotel rooms. Staff was overly accomodating and friendly. THe breakfast was fresh and had a variety of choices far beyond the usual. The rooms were neat clean and stylish with ample room for a extended or short stay. Nice pool and hottub as well. I have stayed in a number of places in Ames and would say this was the best experience.
The general quality of the hotel is OK and everything you expect from a 2* accommodation. The hotel is let down by unhelpful staff and their very loud air conditioner (it vibrates the whole room when on). Staying on the ground floor meant that you wouldn't want your window open due to the noise outside that starts very early in the morning. The desk in the room is large and well proportioned but close to the fridge which is also noisy. If you are a deep sleeper and don't mind staying in a noisy environment this hotel is fine.
