subject: Latens Expands India R and D Centre to Underpin Major Global Growth [print this page] Latens - the leading provider of software security solutions for Pay-TV across all networks - today announced the opening of a new R&D facility - Global Development Center, in Hyderabad, India, to reflect its continued growth in the Asia region and expand its global presence and product development capabilities. Latens is the largest content protection company in the field of IPTV with about a hundred customers.
A path breaking innovation from the Latens team for the Broadcasting Industry is the creating of technological marvel, DVB-Software Conditional Access in the world, says Rahul Nehra, Asia Director, Latens Systems. He said Latens is one of the few companies offering unified CAS, it offers software CAS for Cable, Satellite, IPTV, Internet TV, DTH etc on one platform, unlike the traditional systems which need to have separate systems for each one of them. Software CAS is the fastest growing technology in Asia. The entertainment industry in India is worth Rs 580 billion and is growing at 12% per annum, the Television industry alone is of Rs 260 billion and is growing at 13% per annum, we see a great potential for us here. He said, Latens has already signed three leading players in South Asia including Reliance Digcom in the last six months. Two more national level DTH players are in talks to migrate from their existing card based system to software based system. We should be signing with these two national level players in four weeks time and one more within the next six months with over 2 to 3 million subscribers, he added. We operate on two revenue models outright purchase and rental model. One more area where we see lot of promise is Over the top TV' & Latens is one of the few companies globally to offer software for this says Rahul Nehra.
Latens continuous investment in the region has been rewarded with recent client and partner deals including IndieonTechnologies and GoDB Tech. The new operation will allow future growth of the R&D team in Asia which falls in line with Latens plans in building up a regional hub for its software development.
In South Asia, Latens has emerged as the fastest growing. "Our commitment to India has enabled Latens to serve a broad range of clients and partners in the region and this will position us further to pursue additional growth opportunities," said Srikanth, Latens.
Some of the customers of Latens in India include Reliance Digicom, Dish Media Networks, Home TV -DTH. Latens is perhaps one of the very few multinational companies that runs its Asian operations from India-Delhi.
Latens has identified Hyderabad as their global Hub for development of its range of broadcasting products. This Hub will cater for Global product development for Latens and will be the largest development facility for Latens worldwide.
The Global Development Center, Hyderabad, a multi-million dollar investment for Latens, will have in excess of a hundred core technologists. The technologies will revolve around next generation software conditional access, middleware, set-top boxes integrations to name a few. As we go along the road we will be involving ourselves with newer technologies in content protection and monitization.
Since opening the R&D Centre in Hyderabad in early 2009 Latens has continued to expand the offices and workforce, building on our existing successful team," added Mark Crum, Latens Head of India Operations. He added, "The R&D Centre has been instrumental in designing and developing unique CAS and Middleware software-only solutions for leading global Pay TV operators.
