subject: Are These 3 Weight Loss Myths Keeping You Fat? [print this page] Do you become obsessed with your appearance but at the same time have moments where you overeat? Have you ever researched binge eating disorder? If you have a difficult time developing a healthy relationship with food and in turn develop a negative thought pattern regarding yourself and food then you have come to the right place.
Have you ever entered into a cycle where you overeat and then you feel guilty? The guilt pushes you into fad diets or extreme dieting. As these diets do not work and you become frustrated, it is very normal to internalize these events and develop a set of internalized beliefs. You can achieve a happy and fulfilled life by first looking at the myths that you hold regarding dieting. Below are some common myths that you may believe.
Myth 1 - You Have to Be Skinny to Be Successful
There is a lot of pressure into todays society to be thin. Just spend one day noticing how the media portrays success- by being skinny. You walk into a grocery store line and notice magazines talking about the newest fad diet or showing celebrities who are slightly overweight in a negative light. There are even implications that you must be thin in order to find love.
You may be putting your life on hold while you attempt to lose that last little bit of weight. For example, you are interested in dating someone, but you feel that you are not thin enough so you do not approach them. You may tell yourself when I lose just a little bit more weight I will approach that person.
If this sounds like you then start looking around you to see many successful people who are not thin. Tell yourself every day that you do not have to be thin to be successful and begin living your life.
Myth 2 - Losing Weight is Difficult
You may feel that losing weight is hard. You may be able to lose weight but put it right back on. This leads you to believe the myth that dieting plans to lose weight are hard. Dieting is not the part that is hard - they just do not work. Diets just lead to a cycle of dieting, overeating, and feeling guilt. Trying several different diets just to end up back where you were is what is actually difficult. You end up feeling that you cannot successfully complete the diet and lose weight.
Myth 3 My Issues with Food Cause All My Problems
Although this is a very understandable feeling, it is still a myth. When we enter the dieting cycle and begin to develop negative thoughts patterns it can bring us down. We transfer these negative feelings to our everyday life. This is a myth because even people who are thin have problems. We have the ability to change our thoughts, become happy with ourselves, and lead a happy life no matter how we look. Changing your emotional state will help you become successful and happy!
You may be in a state where you are hoping to change your life in a positive way. You may believe that you have to be skinny in order to be successful and lead a happy carefree life. This is not true. By learning to live your life without dieting you can see results and change your life!
