subject: Best Indian Car: The Indian Automobile Market Today [print this page] The Indian car market has grown by leaps and bounds over the last decade or so. A little over than ten years ago if you planned on buying a new car it wasnt that complicated a decision as there were basically the couple of Maruti Suzuki cars which dominated the market and just about a handful of foreign cars to choose from. The Maruti 800 was probably thought as the best Indian car by many. However that seems like a distant, hazy memory as compared to the Indian car market today. Almost all the big foreign car giants like Honda, Skoda, Chevrolet, Nissan etc have launched in India. Even high-end premium car brands such as BMW, Audi, Porsche and Jaguar have opened outlets in India. This obviously shows how much the Indian car market has grown in the last few years. Every second days newspaper has a front page advertisement of a new car being launched. Cars which have been launched in the past few weeks that come to my mind are the Nissan Sunny, Mahindra XUV 500, Maruti Swift 2011 and the Honda Brio. Back in the day it would have been months till so many new cars were launched, with such an endless list of choices its bound to confuse the consumer. Considering that buying a car is no small decision to be made in haste. A car in todays world has become more of a necessity than a privilege like it was earlier. There are also many small segment cars which are designed for the common man who looks for high mileage and low maintenance above all else. These cars are also called hatchbacks. They make for the ideal car in India where we have so many problems with traffic and parking. Even among hatchbacks there are the premium hatchbacks like the Skoda Fabia, Honda Jazz and the Maruti Swift 2011 and the more budget oriented hatchbacks are the Maruti Alto, the soon to come Hyundai Eeon and ofcourse the Tata Nano. Now with such a wide range of cars within a particular segment its close to impossible to judge which is the best Indian car?
However for any of these cars to be deemed the best Indian car they would have to greatly excel in certain aspects. First and foremost as Ive mentioned the car should have high mileage and low maintenance, the spare parts should be easily available, and it should be spacious enough for 5 people to go for a long comfortable drive. These are the basic things which most people would look at when buying a car and if a car satisfies all these conditions Im sure its most likely to do very well in the Indian car market.
