What To Look For In An Automobile Service And Repair Shop

For many of us our cars or automobiles are part of our livelihood and like our livelihood we want to take care of it so it in turn takes care of us. When selecting a shop for auto repair and services it's important to keep a few things in mind.

How the shop looks?

Although auto body repair shops have a reputation for being grimy that doesn't mean that should be an accruate representation of the employees or the atmosphere. Ask for a tour of their facility. Look at the tools, materials used, and organization of the office. If an auto repair service is proud of their shop and services, more often than not they want to show it off, not hide anything.

Does the auto repair shop have certifications?

If an auto body has certified technicians from top brands and/or industry leading organizations they have been trained to provide quality service in auto body and repair on specific models of vehicles. I.e. a certified auto repair service with Audi, Aston Martin, Mercedes Benz and BMW certifications are qualified and authorized specialists for these brands of cars.

Is the auto repair shop DPR or Non-DPR?

DPR means Direct Repair Programs which involve the auto repair shop and an insurance company. This means the repair shop must comply with the insurance company by maintaining a certain status. Insurance companies will often inspect the repair shop for quality assurance. It is a consumer's right to use whatever repair service shop they wish to use. Choosing where you want to take your vehicle is up to you not the insurance company. You as a consumer have the right to choose any auto repair shop you wish.

What is their company policy?

Before you turn your car over to the mechanic it is important to know the company policy, warranties, guarantees, etc. Get a detailed list of work to be done and if you see something does not seem correct address it before the service is completed. Ask questions.

Finding a qualified, customer oriented auto repair service isn't difficult if you know what to ask and what to look for. Many auto body repair shops aren't out to scam a consumer, they are trying to run a business and fix your car, but just as it is their responsibility to be a responsible service provider it's yours to be a responsible consumer.
