The Variety You Can Seek While Purchasing A Foam Board

When it is time to purchase a foam board you might be left confused given the variety available. The basic purpose of these boards is to provide a very sturdy and yet smooth, backing surface for paper. Students making models and designs and artists using sketching paper all need this sturdy surface just the same way as those who are campaigning for a brand. The variety of foam boards is in terms of the material which is used to manufacture them. They also vary quite a bit in terms of how thick they have to be and their dimensions. Obviously, larger boards have to be reasonably thicker because they have to support a greater weight without bending or arching over. The boards differ in terms of number of surfaces, their color and their finish too.

There are PVC boards, styrene faced boards, acrylic boards and boards made of thick paper or foil foam. You can also go for the laminated foam board which offers a shiny and attractive surface. The lightweight boards come with designed paper on one side or both sides when the attention of onlookers has to be attracted from both sides. Plain white or colorful paper is used depending on the actual use. While some boards could be as thick as 5mm or 0.5cm, others could be thinner than 3mm and are reasonably smaller. The common sizes include 9 X 12 inches, 11 X 14 inches, 18 X 24 inches, 20 X 30 inches and 36 X 48 inches. You will also come across 1 ply foam boards and expanded polystyrene sheets that are as thick as 1 inch.

The other variety that you will find is in terms of the core. You can go for a white core foam board or a black core board. Colored boards in blue or yellow can also be procured easily. Professional foam boards can be used for graphic posters and usually have high resolution, matte or glossy surfaces. The sturdy boards can easily be pinned or taped, a versatility of mounting which is hard to come by in other items. In some cases, when a much larger display surface is required, it is very easy to join the boards, edge to edge to create a tri-fold board. In fact, there are boards with adhesive backed edges for joining the panels when required.

The foam board can be designed to offer a sturdy surface for non-bleeding, high resolution ink which can come handy for digital artwork or for larger banners and posters that are used for marketing campaigns. The painted boards are quite attractive and useful during tradeshows and promotional events. The tri-fold boards are also used when large displays are required for temporary mounting. These boards fold easily at the scores or panels making them highly portable. Corrugated boards also come with smooth back surfaces. You can also order for boards in an assortment of colors such as red, blue and yellow for marketing campaigns.
