Wind Turbine Technology: 3 Crucial First Steps Before You Buy

Wind turbine technology is a form of renewable energy that you can use at your home to make electricity. It is a perpetual form of power production, very much unlike what you and I get now from our utility providers.

Like with any other home project, it is a good idea to understand all of of the variables that could influence the performance of your equipment before you really get going in earnest. It is not that complicated to do this with wind turbine technology but it is a set of steps that you must take if you are going to optimize the production of this device at your home and make the most electricity that you possibly can from it.

If you are thinking about trying to integrate this form of power production at your home, then there are a couple of things you need to do before you go any further

Study your microclimate - Measure the average speed and frequency distribution for several areas around your house with an anemometer. Finding out how much wind energy you have close by can be a tremendous motivator, too. When you realize how much power is contained in the wind that is blowing around you all the time it becomes very obvious that you need to get a piece of equipment to harvest that wind power and take advantage of it.

Talk with your local government about it - It is very clear that any local government you have to be dealing with will have some type of permitting process that either limits for encourages you to invest in wind energy. At the very least you need to check out their permit form and find out if there's anything within it that will limit you to something other than what you would like to purchase for your home.

Know what you want to use the power for - Once you have sized up how much energy you have and what your limitations are, it is time to decide where the power that you make is going to go. Many people just charge a set of batteries for use as backup to some critical item around the house, or freezer. This is probably the simplest way to get going in the renewable energy business and certainly the cheapest and least complicated.

Wind turbine technology can cut your power costs considerably at your home. The best way to make sure you are optimizing your system is to take care of these basics before you get serious about buying anything.
