subject: Lvn Program Online - A Convenient Path To A Better Career [print this page] Nursing is a career that not only improves the lives of others, but improves the life of the nurse, as well. Many nurses start out as LVNs, or licensed vocational nurses. Sometimes, they go on to become RNs (registered nurses), but there are many who are content to remain LVNs. Outside of Texas and California, these are better known as LPNs, or licensed practical nurses. No matter what these medical professionals are called, however, they are valued in rest homes, hospitals, and private practices across the nation. Many of them got their required licenses by pursing an LVN program online.
The primary purpose of the LVN is the total well-being of the patient. It's true that that's what all medical professionals do, but the LVN does it on a much more personal level. When someone needs to observe the patient, see how the patient's day is going, or just talk, that's often the job of the LVN. She will check the charts or change them, take vital signs, take samples, and file the records, all under the supervision of a doctor or registered nurse.
With an associate degree and the training provided by an LVN program online, a licensed vocational nurse can probably earn $25,000 to $35,000 a year, just to start with. Naturally, this will rise as times goes on in a successful career.
Flexibility is one of the biggest attractions to taking an LVN program online. We all have family or prior work obligations or some other aspect of life that takes a lot of time. These things are necessary, but they don't leave much room for traditional classes. With an online class, that's no longer a worry, since you can work at your own pace. If you need some lab or clinical work to complete your training, even that can be provided. Hybrid classes allow for lab time, with the bulk of the training being through online courses. Every would-be nurse needs clinical training, often hundreds of hours worth, but there's no need to pile time spent in a classroom on top of that.
Online classes save both time and money, as well. Sure, it takes perhaps the same amount of time to learn something online as it does in an actual classroom, but being able to do it on your own time, with no need to arrange for travel or parking makes it a whole lot easier. Online courses often have a lower tuition, as well. Even the books are online, making them a great deal cheaper than they would otherwise be. So, no driving means no extra travel time, no money used for gas, and the books are sent to you over the internet, so there's no cost for a physical book.
Always make sure the LVN program online that you're considering is fully accepted by the state nursing board, since they are the ones who administer the tests, and hand out the licenses. There are only certain courses and institutions they will consider. You'll find this will still leave you with a wealth of choices for you as you start your path to become a licensed nurse.
