Having used up, at least for now, the improve characters he developed in Da Ali G Show, Sacha Baron Cohen in The Dictator has created a new one: the full-bearded Adm. Gen. Omar Aladeen, tyrant of the North African nation of Wadiya.

He is the guy, you know, who spilled Kim Jong-ils ashes on Ryan Seacrest at the Academy Awards.

On the laughmeter The Dictator is closer to Borat than to the misfired Bruno, which is to say it is funny for about half of its brisk 83 minutes. This time out Baron Cohen is working with a script and professional actors throughout (including Ben Kingsley as a Wadiyan big shot), and the lack of improvisation is somewhat stifling. He is at his best and most daring when he is riffing in unplanned situations. Rest of all this you will know when you will watch The Dictator movie online.

Sacha Baron Cohen is best known for creating comedic characters that often walk the line between silly caricatures and sly social satires that mirror our own stereotypes. Ali G: Indahouse, Borat and Brno were all clear evidence that Cohen has something relevant to say, and that he has no problem having a little fun (sometimes at our expense) while doing so. With The Dictator, Cohen has offered up his most cohesive (and possibly instigative) film yet, but whether he is laughing with us or at us, or whether or not you enjoy the punch line, are the questions hanging over this send-up of politics, personal philosophies, and everything in between.
