The Benefits Of Wooden Caskets

Oftentimes the most expensive part of a funeral is the casket. The two main materials used for caskets are wood and metal. The metal caskets are the most expensive, and can cost between $2-3,000 on average. They are often made of steel, but can also be made from other cheaper alloys as well. Bronze and copper may also be used, but are extremely expensive. Many metal caskets are considered "protective" because they come with features that help prevent the leakage of water into casket and prevent rust; however, not all metal caskets come with this feature.

Wooden caskets are much cheaper than metal caskets, often costing less than $1,000. This alleviates the financial pressure you experience while already going through a complicated and sad time in your life. Wooden caskets are often handcrafted, giving the funeral service a more personal and warm feel. They are also more natural and in tune with nature itself, to which your loved one is returning. And they are often more free of harmful chemicals, which is better for the earth itself.

Some funeral homes will tell you that having a metal casket preserves the remains forever; however, this is simply not the case. It is impossible to find a casket, regardless of what it is made of, that will preserve a body indefinitely.

Though the impulse to buy a "protective" metal casket may be appealing, it is important to remember that wooden caskets are a more logical, and often more beautiful, choice for your funeral service.
