Top Tracks For Travelling

Everyone associates different songs with specific moments in time, or parts of their lives, a song can bring memories flooding back, and take all your worries away. The power of music is, for many people, immeasurable, and having the perfect tunes to soundtrack your travels or summer holidays will make sure the memories keep returning to take you straight back to the sunshine.

With the advent of mp3 players, carrying a whole library of music around in your pocket couldn't be easier. Twenty years ago, the idea of taking an entire music collection on holiday would have been ludicrous. Today, it would be almost inconceivable to travel without it. Depending on the accommodation you have chosen for your break, and a set of portable speakers could be a key addition to your holiday packing list: many hotels will now provide docking stations, though if you are staying in smaller or independent accommodation on cheap holidays, it is worth checking whether speakers are provided, it's no good having a first-rate set of playlists, with nothing to play them on.

The ability to make playlists gives you fantastic scope for curating your own holiday soundtrack, and allows you to get away from listening to whole albums on repeat. The prospect, though, of creating playlists from scratch can be daunting: too many songs to choose from, and no idea where to start. It is a good idea to keep playlists relatively short: a selection of twenty to twenty five songs for each play list is reasonable to keep you going for a couple of hours at a time -- or until the mood changes and you switch to something different altogether.

Start with a playlist of your favourite songs: a list of classics that never fail to make you smile, or sing along. Choose a mix of old and new songs for an eclectic shuffle through the decades, and so that the list doesn't have too many similar tracks one after another. This can be your go-to music, for when you can't quite decide what you want to hear, for when the mood needs brightening, or when everyone needs waking up.

Next you need lists to suit every time of day. A quiet, calm, chilled out series of songs will be perfect for early mornings, getting you out of bed and lingering over breakfasts with plenty of fresh orange juice and pastries. Everyone has their favourite chill-time songs, but for those on the hunt for something new, typical summertime tracks from bands such as Morcheeba have long been associated with long days in the sun.
