subject: World Population Day: Green Economy [print this page]

Population explosion is the most serious problem facing our country today. With 16 per cent of the worlds population, India is today the second largest populations country in the world.

July 11 is observed as the World Population Day every year. United Nations decides a particular theme for the World Population Day every year. The theme of World Population Day 2012 is Green Economy: Does it include you?

A green economy is necessary for the improved social equity and reducing various environmental risks.

World Population Day aims to raise the awareness about the global population issues. It was recommended by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programmer that for the overall development plan and programs to focus on the importance of population issues, 11 July should be observed as World Population Day by the international community.

We can make a good use of this day by taking determined actions for a better future for the generations to come. In some countries, family planning policy has been implemented by the government. Although, not all the couples obey the rules. Government should provide proper information and facilities so that they can make a decision of their own regarding family planning.

We can create awareness among the people by participating in various events that support the world population day. We can send World Population Day greeting cards to friends and relatives. Customized cards are a good method to spread the awareness among the people about the hazardous effects of increasing population.

These are some of the reasons for the rising population:

1.Lack of awareness among the people

2.Illiteracy and lack of education

3.Child marriage It is not only a health issue but also a human right violation

4.Some religion oriented people consider the idea of family planning as atheistic

5.Hesitation to share the matter with doctors or anyone else

Uncontrolled population is also giving birth to various other problems, including unemployment, pollutions, poverty etc. It also means an increased need for services, infrastructure and other amenities.

Few steps can be taken to protect the environment and eradicate the rising population issues:

1.Arranging rallies with participation of youth from all the communities

2.Organising dramas, campaigns, seminar discussions and other such activies related to population growth and its negative effects

3.Creating documetaries and releasing to the various media channels

4.Providing a better education system for the poor community people

5.Hands-on demonstation on biodiversity can be included

It is necessary to address the population growth issues to everyone to help in population reduction.
