Packing For Travel

Going on vacation is wonderfulGoing on vacation is wonderful. Lugging around two or three suitcases of clothing and accessories for yourself is not. Learning to pack smarter for your trips will save you a whole lot of inconvenience in the long run. Of course you want to look great, but you really dont need to bring your entire closet to get the job done.

Knowing where you are going is the first step in planning your wardrobe. Nowadays, it is possible to find the forecast a week in advance. There are bound to be fluctuations in the weather no matter where you go, and you can bring a sweatshirt or a wrap in those instances. But if you are going on business, you probably want to pack more professional attire than casual. If you are going to a tropical area, one sweatshirt in case of rain should do. If Alaska is your destination, warm gear may be in your bags.

Taking a regular family vacation into consideration, for one week, know that you dont have to pack fourteen to twenty different outfits. Become really good at mixing and matching pieces of clothing and accessorizing. Be aware going into your packing and planning that you will need to wear your capris or shorts more than once, so pack clothing that doesnt show wrinkles. There are no guarantees that there is a laundry where you are headed and if you are anything like me, you dont want to spend your vacation ironing. Shirts take up a lot less space in a suitcase, so if you feel like bringing a different look for evening, a shirt and jewelry do the trick.

One thing to keep in mind is that shoes are heavy so keep them to a minimum. Wearing your heaviest pair while traveling, especially by air, saves space and weight in your suitcase. Flip-flops are light and take up little room. Those can even go in zipper compartments with toiletries, if you so desire. It is the athletic shoes or the pumps that tend to add so much weight. Some families will pack one bag that is just shoes. If you are flying, read up on your airline for limits on how many bags you can check and weight restrictions. It may cost you extra.

Look up your hotel and see if the room comes complete with a hairdryer and curling iron. Those are bulky items that can be left behind if you are already paying for those amenities. I have become less picky about my shampoo and soap over the years and can make do with what the hotel offers or I will purchase travel sizes when I arrive at my destination making security easier at the airport. Even in the car, I exploded a bottle of shampoo going over a mountain pass. It is less hassle for me to use what is there when I arrive. Those are some of the perks I am paying for, why not use them?

What you dont want to be without is your toiletries. I do know that having to go shopping for a whole new make-up ensemble is no fun and waking up realizing I forgot my toothbrush was almost paralyzing. While these are replaceable items, they are personal things and certain brands are not available everywhere you go. Make a checklist if you need to and that will ensure that you remember the vital things.

Vacations and traveling should be a fun and enjoyable experience. Being well prepared is important, but dont confuse that with overdone. You are there to make wonderful memories. Enjoy the time you are given! For more information about Branson lodging and Branson vacation, theres great information online.
