subject: Vehicle Wrapping: Tips In Wrapping Trucks And Buses [print this page] This write-up contains simple do-it-yourself process of wrapping a 45-50 feet trailer, truck, or bus that has a smooth and straight surface. Considering that you will be working on a flat surface, this process of applying vinyl sheets or films should be fast and easy.
Applying vehicle wraps will only require you to obtain a little knowledge and skills.
1. The first thing you should do is to lay up all panels by using a masking tape. In order for your final image to fit perfectly, make sure the panels are on correct overlap. Otherwise, essential elements such as punch lines, business logos, or important dates could possibly be cut away. Allot extra time in setting up the panels on their proper positions. This way you will not be worrying about fixing them later on.
2. The sequence of the overlapping panels should be matched to the natural driving direction of the vehicle. To do this, you must begin with the final panel on each side of the vehicle.
3. While you are busy working on the initial panel, tape the second panel so it would not distract you. Loosely fold the second panel over and tape it temporarily. Stick horizontal masking tape along the first panel. It should be approximately 12 inches.
4. The next step is releasing the top of the panel, removing the backing paper from the top segment then cutting it off.
5. Squeegee that particular section while tightly holding it. In a horizontal direction, start from the middle out. This process is necessary for a smooth and even bead.
6. After completing the first horizontal stroke, continue working using the squeegee on an upward direction until you accomplish it.
7. The next step is rolling back backing paper about 35-45 inches down. Place your hand at the center of the vinyl under the segment you peeled back. Then apply two layers of backing paper and one layer of vinyl.
8. Using your other hand, squeegee beginning from the center. You should use the felt edge of the squeegee. Work from the top then straight down.
9. Change the position of your bottom hand to make it parallel to the next stroke you will make. Again, using the squeegee, work beginning from the upper part straight down.
10. Keep on working outward in both directions. Make sure your bottom hand is constantly placed directly below the squeegee stroke. Do this until you come to a row of rivets.
11. Once you are in a row of rivets, reverse the squeegee so you could use the other side. Using your other hand, hold the vinyl on the side.
12. While holding the vinyl tightly on the side, hit the rivets in a moderately slanting and poking motion. Continue doing so until you reach a row of rivets on the lower part.
13. Keep on working with the squeegee until you are done with all the vehicle wrap panels.
On the other hand, when working with a car signage, these steps are likewise applicable. But, a truck or bus signage can be a bit easier to finish than a car signage. This is because a truck or a bus has wider and smoother surface compared to a car.
Vehicle wraps are a great, effective, and less costly tool to advertise your business.
