Travel Insurance: Reasons Why Your Claim Can Get Rejected

Most of the travelers are aware that while travelling it is advisable and important to have a travel insurance policy done so that if at all anything goes wrong or if anything unexpected happens during the journey, then one can file a claim and obtain cover for it thus having to pay less or nothing from ones pocket. However just buying and keeping the policy doesnt mean that we will receive the pay out from the insurance company for the claim anytime. There are few mistakes that when done by the insured can result in the rejection or delay of the claim. If these mistakes are not taken care of, then there is every chance that the insurance company might say a no for the claim. Following are some likely points that have to be taken care of, so that one is not declined of the rightful cover he/she deserves.

Exclusions: often travelers have pre-decided about the activities that they will be undertaking during their journey. The travelers assume that these activities are automatically included in the travel insurance policy. However it is not the case always. Many a times even the most common activities are not covered and this, the traveler comes to know when he goes to file a claim. Thus the traveler gets no cover. Thus make it a point to verify that even the smallest of activities that you wish to undertake are covered in your travel insurance policy.

Drinking: Any accidents due to the travelers over drinking are not covered. So drink within the prescribed limit.

Leaving luggage unattended: Do not leave luggage or other items unattended and always keep them in safe of the hotel or in a secure place. While the luggage is unattended and if it gets stolen then the traveler will not be eligible for the claim for loss of luggage.

Pre- existing medical condition: the insurer expects the insured to disclose in advance if the traveler is suffering from any pre existing medical conditions. Thus if you have not informed and then undergo a medical treatment then you are not covered for that and have to pay for the expenses from your pocket.

Informing immediately and at the right time: traveler might feel that he can file a claim or inform the insurance company about any untoward incident after returning from the journey but this is wrong. It is important that when the untoward incident or accident takes place then the insured informs the insurer immediately. If failed to do so then the insurer might decline the claim.

Evidence: when on a journey a traveler might undergo medical treatment or might lose baggage or even might be robbed. For medical treatment there are medical reports and for luggage loss or robbery there is F.I.R. that has to be registered in the police station. The copy of medical reports and the copy of F.I.R. have to be submitted to the insurance company as a proof and evidence that the incident took place. If these evidences are not submitted then the claim will get rejected.
