subject: A Guide To Purchasing A Lawn Mower For Commercial Uses [print this page]

Buying a lawn mower for commercial use is very different to buying one for use in your own backyard. There are a number of factors that you will need to take into account to ensure that you arent making a choice that wastes your time and your money on a mower that is completely unsuitable. By taking into account each of the following factors, you can go a long way towards ensuring that you are making the best choice for your needs:

Size of the lawn

If you work for a company that is responsible for cutting smaller lawns, such as those found at houses, units and even apartments, you will require a smaller mower. If you work for a company that is responsible for cutting much larger spaces, such as parks and school ovals, you will need to use a much larger model, such as a ride on.

Type of grass

You will need to familiarize yourself with the various lawn species that you will be working with as a part of your job. Some species, such as Bermuda, actually have trimming and height requirements that ensure the grass continues to look its best. You will need to make sure that you choose a lawn mower that will be suitable for each species that you will be dealing with.

Precise cuts

Occasionally, you will be forced to work with clients who are extremely picky when it comes to the appearance of their lawns. They will be extremely loath to having ragged or uneven edges and will want everything to be perfect. In these cases, a handheld lawn mower (similar in appearance to a weed whacker) will get a more precise cut around the edges of the grass.

Type of mower

There are a number of different commercial lawn mowers on the market that you can choose from, but it is important to keep in mind that each is suited to different needs. As well as standard models, it is also possible to purchase mowers that are fitted with extra features, such as mulching capabilities and collection bags.

Choosing a commercial lawn mower can be a very daunting task it is likely that you will need more than one type in the day-to-day tasks of your work and, because of this, it can be very easy to make a costly mistake. To avoid this from occurring as much as possible, make sure that you take into account each of the above factors, including the size of the lawn, the type of grass, and how precise you need to be.
