Urban Hip Hop Wear How The Trend Came To Life

Ever seen cool men and women walking the streets of New York or San Francisco Bay area, sporting loose and trendy outfits? Their outfits are often referred to as urban hip hop wear. Many youngsters of today sport these cool looking outfits that are mostly comprised of oversized shirts, baggy pants, leather suits, large-sized bling-blings, and other fancy stuff that makes them look cool. But have you ever wondered what brought forth this trend?

This type of fashion that is prevalent today was not only conceptualized or given birth in recent years. In fact, in can be surprising that hip hop wear was started in the 80s. If you can still remember MC Hammer, the rapper who got the world crazy over Ice Ice Baby and Cant Touch This, already wore the loosely fitted clothes that seem to dominate the fashion of teens today.

The 80s was just the start of all of it. Soon enough, brands such as Adidas, Pro-Keds, and Puma joined in the craze producing and designing their own set of hip hop apparels like sneakers with oversized shoelaces. Queen Latifah also became one of the advocates of urban hip hop wear, popularizing Africa chains, as well as dreadlocks.

During the 1990s, it seemed like designers and rappers worked hand in hand in promoting the right kind of hip hop fashion for the young generation. Tommy Hilfiger for instance became one of the leading brands during these years. It was able to capture a large percentage of the market by featuring artists, as well as blacks in advertisements. One piece of Hilfiger sweatshirt worn by Snoop Dogg in a TV appearance got it sold out in New York stores the next day!

Urban hip hop wear has continuously flourished overtime. In fact its popularity can be greatly attributed to the styles sported by different rappers. The latest of whom are Eminem, Lil Kim, Outkast, Timberland, 2Pac, 50Cent, and so many others.

These artists wear urban shirts of different styles and look, and sometimes setting the trend in color preferences. Aside from the clothing, accessories were also added to the outfit. Shades, jewelries, and caps were often commonly used.

Urban wear clothing will always exist in the fashion scene. Although there are some critics of the fashion, it can never be denied that urban hip hop wear would always be well-loved by todays teens and future generations to come.
