subject: What Identity Thieves Will Do With You and Your Money [print this page]

The use of credit cards is very common nowadays because of its convenience that is being offered to all users. Most of these users are well aware of the fact that acquiring a credit report and keeping a high credit score is a very important matter that should be given full attention. While it is true that setting these factors to a high standard will do wonders to your account, there is also one factor that is neglected most of the time and that is having a secure credit account.

The proof that securing your account is not prioritized as much as it should be is that there have been a lot of credit identity theft victims. If you have not heard of such yet, the meaning of identity theft is simple but can strike and hit hard. It basically means that someone will get, find or retrieve personal information enough to act and pretend like you. They will take your identity for financial reasons, such as paying and buying things under your name.

However, what you also need to know is the actions that identity thieves will be doing once they get information from you, aside from stealing money from you. The first act that they will probably do is to change your address that is stated in your personal account information where bills are sent to you.

This is done for the simple reason of not wanting you to see what they have been buying under your name. Also, if they have successfully changed your address, they can easily access and edit all other information in your account, thus taking complete control of your credit.

You should know and keep in mind that once you have stopped receiving bills from your credit company, there is something fishy going on and you need to get it checked immediately, because credit companies will always send you bills. Also these credit identity thieves can even open a new account under your name and create further damage. This may cause you bankruptcy, or worse, lawsuits saying you have not been able to pay your bills.

Do keep in mind as well that thieves work very fast so that even before you discover that you have been stolen from, they will make sure that they have gotten what they want and that they have gotten enough to get them by for a small period of time. As soon as they get your information, they can get access to your bank accounts and withdraw all the money you have until you do not have a single cent left.

Credit score identity theft is such a serious problem that thieves can even declare bankruptcy under your name and account so that they may run away from all their debts. This is a problem that nobody wants to deal with and will take you a long time before you can recover. The hard part is there is almost no chance of retrieving your money and catching the thief. So to prevent this theft, be sure to check on your account regularly.
