subject: Make The Most Out Of Your Travels! [print this page] Are you planning a vacation or trip? If you're going somewhere new and unfamiliar, then this is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy yourself and to experience the true thrill of traveling, which is trying new things and getting out of your comfort zone. It's important that, when you travel, you don't just do the same old things you could do at home and/or that you do every day. Instead, you should commit yourself to getting to know your new locale, what it's all about, and experiencing everything that it has to offer you.
When you first arrive in a new city or town, make a beeline for the local newspaper stand and pick up the latest copy. As you browse through the paper, you'll begin to get a real feel for this area you've found yourself in and what it's all about. Not only will this make you feel more at home and more aware of what's going on, but it can also help you to find out about fun events, festivals, and special happenings in the area. If you run across something fun that you've never tried before or don't get the opportunity to do very often, then definitely take advantage.
Remember, too, that the best way to really blend in when you're in a new place is to act like the locals, and the best way to do that is to get to know who the locals are. Find a trendy local hotspot, like a bar, a diner, or a caf, and don't be shy! Look for friendly looking patrons and strike up a conversation. You might just make a new friend or two and, better yet, you can get the inside scoop on the coolest places to be and the best things to do. If you have a quality GPS in your vehicle, use it as a way to find out about local restaurants and other venues where you're likely to meet people.
As you try new and hopefully outrageous things, be sure to document your adventure! Take photos of each new thing you try and each place you see. These will make for great memories later on and also serve as fun and unique souvenirs of your trip. You might even want to start a photo collection of all the places you've traveled to. You could take pictures of yourself at welcome centers, truck stops, landmarks, or anything else you can dream up.
Finally, make sure you take the time to appreciate the cultured part of your vacation spot. Use your GPS or go online to find out about museums, art galleries or exhibitions, plays, and more. Often times, the local arts the very best and the most unique and can provide you with an experience you wouldn't have gotten otherwise. Above all else, when you travel, just remember that the whole point is to experience the new and the different and to see and live life in a brand new way.
