Different Modes To Travel From Somnath To Dwarka

Somnath is a small temple town near Veraval in Saurashtra district in the state of Gujarat. Somnath lying on the coast of Arabian Sea is famous for the Somnath Temple where one of the twelve Jyothirlingas of God Shiva is located. As per legend the shrine was constructed by Moon to worship God Shiva. Several times the temple was destroyed by invaders. The existing temple constructed after Indias independence is in Chalukya style and attracts many devotees. Besides this temple Junaghad Gate and Somnath Beach are tourist spots. Ahmadabad Somnath Trust is conducting Somnath Darshan tours daily for the benefit of devotees with per head bus fare of Rs 20/-

Dwarka located on the tip of Saurashtra Peninsula in the State of Gujarat is a holy city for Hindus, known from the times of Lord Krishna. The literary meaning of the word is Gateway to the Brahma. It is one of the Char Dhams (religious centres) and one of the Saptapuris (seven cities), revered by Hindus. The imposing Dwarakadheesh Temple re- built in the 16th century was originally built 2000 years ago as per legend. Other attractions include Sankaracharya Math and Gomati Sangam Ghats where many old temples are located.

Distance by road from Somnath to Dwarka via Veraval, Mangol, Porbandar and Lamba is 229 km and can be covered in 4 hours approximately, driving a car. From Somnath head north east and drive through NH8E to reach Dwarka. One can hire a taxi to travel from Somnath to Dwarka. Fares depend on the type of vehicle, roughly Rs 4700/- for Tata Indica non-a/c to Rs 6600/- for Tavera a/c. Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation is running direct buses to Dwarka Starting at 6.30 am and 9.00 am from Dwarka bus stand and three buses to Okha which is 28 km away from Dwarka. Bus fare per head is Rs 135/- and running time from Somnath to Dwarka is 7 hours approximately. For luxury buses, starting at 8.30 am and 2.30 pm the fare is Rs 175/- . These Buses stop for three temple visits on the way, but running time is about 7 hours only.
