Going by the 125cc segment standard, Suzuki Slingshot is a welcome hero. Slingshot is attractive and well proportioned. The dual tone paint theme is impressive. The bike appeals you more especially in yellow. The headlamp seems to have grown wings on either side. Slingshot lacks visor which means instrument panels sits right at top of the headlamp. The front fender and nicely shaped fuel tank is attractive.
Under the stylish tank of the Slingshot is the same 125cc engine which powered the Zeus. Surprisingly, Suzuki has carried forward the power ratings too. It produces 8.7bhp at 7000rpm and 101Nm at 3500rpm. It is mated with 5-speed gearbox which follows the standard 1-down and 4-up configuration.
Switch on the ignition, scroll the throttle, SLingshot's exhaust note is delightful. The gearbox is silky smooth which is complemented by the smooth clutch. Slingshot reaches 60kmph quickly but that's where the fun stops. Slingshot behaves more like our passion and splendors rather than premium 125cc motorcycle. It loses steam post 60kmph mark and take ages to reach its maximum speed 98kmph. Out on the highway, you can feel the underpower especially when fellow riders zoom past you easily.
Ride quality is pretty impressive. We drove the slingshot at extreme conditions potholed roads and sand roads. But it absorbs the shocks and insulates the driver. However, the high set pillion seat is not comfortable for large adults.Handling is decent.Slingshot sports drum brakes at the front and the rear. The brakes are effective though the skinny tyres fails to inspire confidence even in straight-line. We did not expect much from the Slingshot considering the customers it targets.
Slingshot comes in two variants spoke-kick start and alloy-self start. On-road price of Suzuki Slingshot with alloy and button start is Rs51,957.
