Does The Economy Have You Living In Fear?

Inspirational Leaders See Opportunity In Tough Times

by Michael D. Hume, M.S.

Here's the bad news: the global economy is probably beyond repair. Like an inmate awaiting execution on Death Row, the economy is a "dead man walking." It may look like it's just a downturn, and you can even find some mainstream pundits and economists who'll tell you it's in recovery. But the list of true experts who say the economy's damaged beyond repair is large, and growing.

And now, the good news: while the vast, uninformed majority of people will lose everything, and life as they know it will cease, the coming financial storm will actually create a new class of enlightened wealthy. Awareness of the real direction of the world economy's movement (which you will not learn about in the mainstream media) will make the difference between being another victim of the storm and emerging with a life of real abundance on the other side of it.

Inspirational leaders approach life with the entrepreneur's sense of optimism. In every problem they see opportunity; in every storm, a coming rainbow. So those among us with a measure of inspirational leadership will see that the time is now to prepare - for disaster, but more importantly for the wealth and abundance to become a safe haven for others.

Today I got a call from a wonderful-sounding young woman who is seeking advice and help on how to start her own business. She's looking to make a few extra bucks each month, "to survive." She is one of the lucky ones in this economy: she has a job. And though a job is a blessing, and I'm glad someone is out there doing what she does, the job she has is not enough to provide long-term financial security for herself and her ten-year-old daughter. That's what she's really looking for.

My first rough piece of advice to her was not to wait too long to change her mindset from one of "scarcity" and "survival," but to make the big shift to a consciousness of abundance and empowerment. That's not easy, of course. But I have to believe that a person like this young mother, who had the guts and vision to make at least a cursory exploration of an entrepreneurial venture, can make that change in her life. Some will, some won't. But lately I feel driven by my mission to help people like this who truly want something better for their future.

Weird: if you believe the best you can do is hold your own, you won't. If you believe you can succeed beyond what heretofore were your wildest dreams, you will.

Today, take a step back and check out your own preparedness. Everyone thinks they've done what they can to prepare for the worst, while carrying only a vague notion (supplied by today's guilty-of-malpractice media) of what "the worst" might be. It's not enough to prepare for "survival." Not any more. Today, you have to prepare not to ride out the storm, but to capture this huge opportunity to transform yourself from a tough, battered ship to a safe harbor for those around you.

In the financial sense, at least, if you try to "survive" the coming storm, you won't. Have the inspirational leadership and personal responsibility to shoot for true abundance, though, and you might just surprise yourself.

You might just achieve it.
