Consumer Reports have no influence on your car insurance policy. This is interesting news, especially for people who are considering buying sport utility vehicles in the coming year.
The Consumer Reports Magazine is raising the bar for SUVs, so that it is more difficult to get a recommendation from the magazine for your vehicle. So much so, that they did not recommend any SUVs for 2011.
It should be known that the Ford SUV has been downgraded because of the new Ford Sync telematics system. This Sync telematics system makes drivers use a touch screen as opposed to switches, which can easily break. This supposedly is the next generation for safe driving. The driver will not have to take his hands off the road anymore. They just use the voice activation utility and the steering wheel is more equipped with controls.
There have been a few concerns with this new system, such as the placement of the temperature and fan. They are located low on the touch screen, and actually make it more challenging for the driver to be able to control the inside temperature of the car. This would cause the driver to have to look away from the road for about 2 seconds.
This is the limit allowed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Ford is claiming that all controls can be controlled by the voice, so that they would not have to take off their eyes from the road for any reason.
We know that Ford is known to innovate based on safety of the driver and the passengers. With the ability to have voice control, there is more concentration on where it should be, the road, and not on the accessories of the car. This is to keep the driver less distracted and furthermore, have great car insurance premiums.
An owner of a car that is known to have very safe driving conditions would be greater benefitted with lower car insurance premiums. Car insurance companies are actually offering discounts to vehicles that have proven to be safer for drivers to drive, because it lowers the risk of getting into an accident. Some insurance companies have actually created and implemented programs that reward the drivers based on the safety of their driving.
The "Snapshot" program is a small gadget that you can put into your car, which will record your speed, distance, braking and mileage. Companies who get access to these Snapshots would see how safe your driving is and offer discounts, making your driving experience a lot more affordable.
So now, you can see that it is not only the way you drive that affects how much your premiums are. Some companies will actually offer discounts up to almost half off the original price if the vehicle that you are insuring is to known to be very safe to drive in.
It does benefit that you do take into consideration these factors, especially if you want to save on your money.
