Carnivals around the world just start off one after another during February and March. Either colorful float parades or wonderful artistic performances, all the carnivals held anywhere have become the ocean of joy and get fully filled with the cheering and laughing of all the people. Now let's just pick up several representative famous carnivals around the world and go through each of them to get a nice taste of their respective wonderful contents. 1. Nice Carnival, France (February 18 ~ March 8, 2011)
The 127th Nice Carnival will be held from February 18 until March 8, 2011 with the theme of "Le Roi de la Mediterranee (means King of Mediterranean' in English)". As the sign for the opening of the Nice Carnival, the King of Carnival got the key to the city at Seine-et-Marne Square at the night of February 18. It is reported that twenty theme floats in total that are decorated with about 30 papered "big heads" and 200 cartoon characters will appear at the carnival parade this year. Accompanying the procession of such a great colorful float team, there will be artistic performances on the streets also various music groups from all over the world will bring their talent shows to everyone.
After the big float parade, a number of traditional activities, including having carnival baths, tastings of traditional Nice dishes, kids' dance party and parades with colorful lanterns and floats will take place in succession during the carnival season. The Carnival will end up with music performances and firework display at both the Bay of Angels and the hills around the castles in Nice at the night of March 8.

The flower battle is absolutely the most significant event in the whole season of the Nice Carnival, where the most beautiful girls throw flowers such as locally grown mimosa and lilies to the crowd from their flowering floats passing along the sea-front on the English Promenade and around 85% of all these flowers come from the well-known French Riviera.
2. Carnival of Venice, Italy (February 26 ~ March 8, 2011)
The Venetian Carnival can be surely described as a grand masquerade ball if people consider the Nice Carnival as the "sea of flower" and the carnival is greatly featured by gorgeous masks and costumes. Especially those masks of various colors and patterns really make everyone feel extremely dazzling in such a spectacular masquerade ball.
The traditional masks for the Venetian Carnival are all made by local artists and you can see dense mask-and-clothing stores locate everywhere on the streets in the city. Some of these colorful masks may be portrayed with colored around eyes, while some of them are painted half-smile expressions. The price for these masks may cost up to hundreds of Euros or just less than 100 Euros. It is said that the average price in St Paul on the north of the bridge will be somewhat cheaper than that in St Marco on the south. Usually, you can get a fairly exquisite mask by just 10 to 20 Euros.
When walking throughout the whole Carnival, you seem to have witnessed all things and all lives existing in this world, which may be exquisite, or unique, or weird, or depressedWhen acting and moving as usual, or just when looking back suddenly, you will always encounter human sculptures made by those street performers who can immediately make everyone's eyes light up at that time. Thereby these creative performers will always acquire "three high rates", that is, high rate of head turning, high rate of focusing and high rate of photo taking from their audiences. Even the best-pose candidate from these performers will be elected and announced by the organization in charge of the Carnival management on the last day of the Venetian Carnival every year!
