With internet dating going through the roof we are going to discuss meeting the person that you met online. When it comes to meeting face to face there are some safety issues that we need to address. The online process is pretty close to the same for all online dating sites. Most sites require you to have a personal profile of yourself, a current picture or a few pictures of yourself to be attached to your profile. And no personal contact information should be on the profile either. Use a different email address for your profile, do not use your regular email address. Also do not give out your phone # until after you have had several email conversations and you feel somewhat confident that this person is ok.
When it comes to meeting face to face here are some suggestions.
Get to know the person for a few weeks before deciding to meet the person. Ask for some photos of him or her especially interacting with friends or family. If the person tries to push you put on the brakes and take this as a warning.
Meet in a very public location. Do not allow the person to come to pick you up, especially on the first date. A busy restaurant is always good. Having other people around in the restaurant and in the parking lot is a good safe location and will give especially the female comfort and ease.
Be careful not leaving a drink, your cell phone or purse unattended. The drink could be drugged while you are away or your personal information or credit cards could be stolen.
Make sure that you tell some friends who you are going to meet and where you are planning on meeting. If you are planning on leaving the restaurant and go to another location with the person make sure you call your friend and inform them. Then after the date contact your friend again and let them know that you are okay.
Limit the amount of alcohol you intake when meeting the person. To much drinking could impair you from making wise decisions.
Absolutely do not go to a secluded location with the person alone. If the person is pushing you tell them to back off and that you need to call your friend.
After the date, if the person is being pushy or threatening in anyway contact the authorities with all the detail information. Also report the person to the dating website company. You sure do not want this person to be a problem for someone else.
If you follow these guidelines you should have a great face to face encounter with the person that you have been communicating with by a dating website. Remember that most people on the dating websites are just like you, they are looking for that special person to be in their life. But it only takes one or two bad people to ruin it for everyone else.
