An important day of the week for the Muslim population Friday brings together a large crowd of devotees, offering prayer amidst the majestic surrounding of the mosque. It is also a place where the Imam, the leader of the congregation prayer provides insightful advice to the followers. Considered a national treasure to the Maldives, the mosque is known for its striking large domes. Featured as a part of the ceiling of the mosque, the domes can be seen from afar. In addition, there are ancient tombstones that could be seen around the mosque, dedicated to the past heroes, nobles and sultans.
