We all understand that the best foods to take in when we want to lose weight are healthy fats, whole grains and lean meats. These will be the foods that give us all protein along with energy. They help our bodies be balanced without infusing a variety of calories that we have to work extra hard to burn off at the gym. Did you realize however that some of the diet foods you've been consuming may have been hindering your ability to lose weight? They could possibly be even adding fat laden calories to your body! Here are a few of the foods which may be undermining your diet efforts.
Sports Drinks may not be aiding you whatsoever. You have most likely been told that a sports drink is the fastest way to replenish your body's electrolyte levels after a workout. Most doctors will explain, though, that if your workout doesn't go over ninety minutes then you should be fine just by drinking water. Sports drinks are filled with calories and sugar and a bunch of other stuff like artificial flavors and colors that will defeat any of your attempts at eating a natural and healthy diet. Try drinking some chocolate milk as an alternative. The sugar in chocolate will help your muscles begin to fix themselves and the calcium in the milk will strengthen your bones.
You don't need protein shakes. Lots of people believe that protein shakes may be used rather than meals and to curb cravings between meals. What you are actually doing, especially if the remainder of your diet consists of whole and healthy foods, is helping your body overdose on protein. No matter what others believe, protein is not stashed in the muscles, it is stored in your body as fat. This means that if you have already consumed too much protein that day, your system will basically store what it doesn't need in your fat cells and that doesn't help you lose weight or inches of your waist line at all.
Pre-packaged deli meat is not nearly as good for you as you might believe it is. You may imagine that a sandwich made from whole wheat bread and pre-packaged lean deli meat makes for a good lunch. The real truth is that pre-packaged deli meat has a lot of preservatives and can provide you with about a third of your recommended sodium ingestion for the day. This can be especially bothersome if you are prone to heart disease. Rather than getting pre-packaged deli meat, pick some home cooked chicken or the deli meats that is freshly sliced at your deli counter. Sure these choices are more high priced but they are much healthier for you in the long run.
There are plenty of things that we believe are much healthier than others like choosing a whole wheat bagel each morning when the truth is that a bowl of cinnamon sprinkled oatmeal is a much healthier choice. Ask your physician which things are the most effective to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you are very careful about what you eat and therefore are good to your system, losing weight probably won't be all that big an issue.
