Thoonga Nagaram Tamil Movie Review
Thoonga Nagaram Tamil Movie Review

Movies are many in recent days with the backdrops of Madurai and debutant Gaurav has come out with one such tale in Thoonga Nagaram'. Thoonga Nagaram' has Vimal of Kalavani' fame with his friends, Bharani Nadodigal' fame, Gaurav the director himself, Nishanth of Renigunta' fame heading to Madurai in search of job. The youngsters spend all the time together and enjoy life to the fullest possible extent. Meanwhile, Vimal falls in love with his childhood friend (Anjali), who is a compere in a local television channel.

Everything goes fine until Vimal gets into trouble, earning the wrath of a powerful minister (V.N.Chibambaram) in rescuing an innocent girl. The rest forms the story of how the minister is after Vimal to kill him. The first half has nothing interesting to boast of and moves in a slow pace. Comedy portions by Singam Puli is not so entertaining. The second half changes the course of the movie with gripping narration and camera works. The story comes to a twist when one of Vimal's friends being a betrayer, joining hands with the minister.

Vimal is good in performance and his acting skills are getting matured movie after movie. Anjali shares less screen space but does her role to perfection. Bharani, Nishanth and Gaurav(director) have all done their parts equally well. V.N.chidambaram has done justice to his role. Camera works are one of the major highlights and Vijay Ullaganath has done a neat job with many wide angle shots and especially the night effect scenes have been well captured. Art direction by Santhanam deserves a special pat for his works, most notable for the festival sequences. Musical score by Sundar C Babu is good and travels with the feel of the movie. Editing by T.S.Suresh is neat and clean.

The movie would have gained more points if the debutante director could have avoided the reminisces of scenes already seen. On the whole Thoonga Nagaram' could have been better.
