Welcome back to the third article of our automotive SEO series, in this article we will explore the proper usage of the ALT tags, Alt tag stands for alternative it is a parameter in many HTML tags such as image tag, object tag, it basically offers an alternative to display the text if the browser can not display an image, or flash animation. It can be used on many things such as image, video, flash animation, but many developers forget to use them because they want the project done on time, and sometimes make short cuts in the process. The Alt tag in the image tag, serve as a parameter, for example if you have an image of a Ferrari, and the person's computer is outdated it can not see the image. Their browser will use your Alt tag information instead; in this case "the picture of a Ferrari" can be displayed. This Alt tag is also used for Google image searches, so if you include all your Alt tags properly, you will gain a lot of traffic from different sources.

Google will also look at your code integrity to see if it is clean, readable, and is it robot friendly. Having the proper tags and parameters in place certainly will rank your site better than your competitors' if they are not using the proper tags. So remember the next time you are looking at your source code, and make sure you have inserted as many necessary Alt tags as possible. It is not only for accessibility reasons but also to please the search engines. You will be surprised just how many extra hits you can obtain this way.
