It won't be long til summer and it's about time to get out those travel brochures... (oops, sorry - I forgot which century this is) - I mean, it is time to scroll through those travel websites and decide on a sunny destination where you can baste yourself with lotion and broil on a beach until well done, and then dance and drink until the wee hours for 7 or 14 days. Maybe you have a favorite destination you return to again and again, but if not, here are a couple of suggestions:

Southern Portugal - Okay, so you have been to the Algarve region before and, yes, the beaches are overcrowded, so this year try something different: rent a car in Faro and drive north an hour or two to the Alentejo region. This area is likely to be discovered and developed soon, so get there before the masses of tourist find out about it. The wine is good, hotels are cheap and the region is about 2 centuries behind the rest of the world. Time slows down, making your vacation last longer. Oh, and the countryside is absolutely stunning.

Gran Canaria - Flights to Gran Canaria are dirt cheap, and this is the best of the Canary Islands. Fly into Las Palmas, Spain's largest port, and find yourself in a destination full of ancient buildings and castles, long sandy beaches and great nightclubs. Take a whale and dolphin-watching cruise from Puerto Rico or go windsurfing at Vargas or Pozo Izquierdo. Party all night in the beachfront clubs at Maspalomas and see the famous sand dunes. It's hard to find a better summer destination than Gran Canaria.

When you are ready to head south, do yourself a favor and opt for the Hilton Edinburgh Park and Fly package. You will get a good night's sleep and you will be at the airport refreshed and on time for your early flight out. Why pay for expensive airport parking when you can have the security of a guarded parking lot and a relaxing night before departure? Hilton's deal is the best park and fly Edinburgh has to offer.
