Today tragedy struck pre-world cup when Nelson Mandela's 13 year old great granddaughter Zenani was killed in an auto accident by a drunk driver leaving the World Cup Opening concert extravaganza. Nelson Mandela will not be attending the opening ceremonies anymore, a sharp contrast from his iconic appearance and boldness at the rugby World Cup in 1995.
It is sad what has occurred, and that South Africa's hero will not be able to attend the opening game of the World's biggest sporting event. Whoever this drunk driver was, he will most likely never live it down, the guy's life is probably over, a terrible misstep in judgment on his part.
For a brief history lesson: Nelson Mandela served 27 years in prison on Robben Island for his actions as an anti apartheid activist and leadership of the Umkhonto we Sizwe. Upon his release from prison, he led his party in negotiations, establishing a democracy in 1994. He was president of South Africa from 1994-1999.

Tomorrow is also a big day with South Korea playing Greece at 7:00 AM, Lionel Messi leading Argentina against Nigeria at 10:00 AM and England vs. the U.S. at 2:30!!!!
