Shopping For A Lawyer

The District of Columbia is not immune to the ravages of this economic downturn. Washington DC bankruptcy lawyers will tell you that. Washington DC bankruptcy lawyers have seen their business grow quite a bit year to date. More and more DC citizens are visiting lawyers to reorganize their finances. Washington DC bankruptcy lawyers are finding their waiting rooms full, as this recovery stage seems to be one without jobs. Most people are at wits end when they decide to contact a lawyer. They have been hard hit by the economy. Perhaps a job was lost, or a mortgage payment increased, or even credit card interest doubled. Most of those same people are just as surprised when they have to go out and shop for a lawyer. They know the easy way of finding one: check the internet, but they don't know how good a lawyer they might be getting. It's better to start your search with friends and relatives. Many of them -- it might surprise you-- have had to contact a lawyer to reorganize their fiances. It's not something people usually brag about, but I'll bet if you ask you will be surprised at those close to you that have contacted a lawyer. One you decide on a lawyer or two, bring a list of questions for your interview, the interview you will be conducting. Remember, you are your own best advocate. Nobody cares about you more than you. It is up to you to you to get the most out of your proceedings. When you sit with your lawyer you may be given several options. One option might be to file Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 consumer bankruptcy. Chapter 7 will involve you selling off your assets and repaying creditors whatever you can. Chapter 13 will put you a on a schedule of repayment. Or the advise you might get might be more conservative. That will be to go on a budget, get another job, sell some toys, and to talk with your creditors. No matter how you approach reorganizing your finances it will lead to your getting your economic house of cards in order and gaining some peace of mind.
