Jaisalmer, better known as the Golden city of India, was established in the year 1156 by Jaisala, the Bhatti Rajput. The city is named after him. Jaisalmer Fort - Jaisalmer fort is the second oldest in Rajasthan. Two hundred and fifty feet tall and reinforced by imposing crenellated sandstone wall 30 feet high; it has 99 bastions, 92 of which were built between 1633 and 1647. Wells within the fort still provide a regular source of water. Even today, you will find that nearly one fourth of the old city's population resides within the fort. Jaisalmer Fort still houses some 2,000 residents, which makes it India's last "living fort." (India's other famous forts are abandoned, except for tourist guides.) This, too, draws visitors to Jaisalmer.

Jaisalmer Havelis - Built by the wealthy merchants, the havelis (mansions) of Jaisalmer are famous for their exclusive cutwork, yellow and red stone treatment and the bracket-shaped decoration of peacocks. The splendid havelis like the Patwon-ki-Haveli, Salim-Singh-ki-Haveli and Nathmalji ki haveli are major tourist attractions in Jaisalmer.

Gadsisar Sagar Lake - A famous picnic spot in the sandy city, Gadsisar Sagar Lake is among the most beautiful attraction in Jaisalmer. It attracts hundreds of migratory birds during the winter season.

Desert National Park - It is an excellent ecosystem and covers a total area of about 3162 square km and was notified a National park in the year 1980. The National park is rich in diverse varieties of fauna, important among them include the Chinkara, Desert Hare, Blackbuck, Desert Snake, fox and vultures.

Sam Sand Dunes - Any trip to Jaisalmer is indeed, incomplete, without a trip to the most panoramic dunes of Sam where the wind is unceasingly carving out scenic patterns, on the sand! Situated 42 kms from Jaisalmer, the sun-soaked Sam Sand Dunes bring to light a glided mirage. Truly the essence of the desert, the ripples of the wind-caressed dunes create an enchanting mirage.
